Erosion Control Project
We had a client who has a stream running through their garden where scouring was beginning to occur on a vertical bank on a bend of the watercourse. We installed Nicospan, which is ideal for vertical bank protection, back filled it with stone, to provide stability and prevent further erosion occurring.
Nicospan and Coir Rolls – Case Study
As the Canal & River Trust’s sole UK’s dredging contractor, Land & Water Services were instructed to dredge and repair a 500 metre stretch of the Grand Union Canal along part of the Slough Arm which travels in a fairly straight line from the Cowley Peachey Junction into Slough terminating by Stoke Poges.
Terraqua supplied Nicospan for a vertical bank repair c/w all associated products including; P15 geotextile, FSC softwood posts, Galv steel tying wire & staples.
Bank Protection Work on River Itchen at Winchester
The River Itchen is a river in Hampshire noted as one of the world’s premier chalk streams for fly fishing, especially using dry fly. It is designated as a Site of Special Scientific interest (SSSI) and is noted for its high quality habitats, supporting a range of protected species including the endangered water vole, otter, brook lamprey and white-clawed crayfish.
Terraqua supplied a range of high quality products to enable a soft-bioengineered erosion system to be installed at the water’s edge. A key objective was to collect a constant supply of fine sediment and to establish vegetation, the bioengineering design detail was critical within this SSSI site.
Channel Repairs to a storm water channel – Case Study
There was no established vegetation on the slopes and the silts were washed down the channel and into the main drain, which was not acceptable. The Terraqua solution included granite filled rock rolls as a protection lining to each side of the channel.
River Wye Restoration
Flooding events within The Rye parkland due to bank failures within the River Wye, caused the local council to seek advice in the form of ECI provided by Land and Water allowing a proposal for restoration on four sections of embankment. Land and Water were successful at competitive tender stage to install primarily coir, post and faggot and Nicospan revetments.
Canch Park Environmental Improvement Scheme
As part of “The Canch Environmental Improvement Scheme” Land & Water Services were contracted to carry out dredging & environmental enhancement works on the river Ryton running through the Canch park for Bassetlaw district council.
The enhancement works included dredging 335 metres of river bed to a depth of 1.2M and removing 400m3 of silts, the instruction from the client was to retain and use all the dredged silts on site as part of a solution to provide new vegetated ledges, which run the full length down one side of the river bank.
